The Entertaining Speaker (226A)

 

Entertaining speakers are always in demand. Projects address preparing and delivering speech, finding good series and anecdotes to include in speeches, using humour, incorporating drama into presentations, and presenting an after-dinner speech.

 

1. The Entertaining Speech

Ø      Entertain the audience by relating a personal experience

Ø      Organize an entertaining speech for maximum impact

Ø      Time: 5 to 7 minutes

 

2. Resources For Entertainment

Ø      Draw entertaining material from sources other than your own personal experience

Ø      Adapt your material to suit your topic, your own personality, and the audience

Ø      Time: 5 to 7 minutes

 

3. Make Them Laugh

Ø      Prepare a humorous speech drawn from your own experience

Ø      Strengthen the speech by adapting and personalizing humorous material from outside sources

Ø      Deliver the speech in a way that makes the humour effective

Ø      Time: 5 to 7 minutes

 

4. A Dramatic Talk

Ø      Develop an entertaining dramatic talk about an experience or incident

Ø      Include vivid imagery, characters and dialogue

Ø      Deliver the talk in a entertaining manner

Ø      Time: 5 to 7 minutes

 

5. Speaking After Dinner

Ø      Prepare an entertaining after-dinner talk on a specific theme

Ø      Deliver the talk using the skills developed in the preceding projects
